I'm Kim Le Bas
I had the good fortune to be born in rural New Zealand and raised on a farm with my four siblings. I spent my childhood immersed in nature and being responsible for looking after my much younger siblings. I was also the family baker - a skill that my colleagues benefit from today! I knew from an early age that I would be a teacher and not a pig farmer, as my parents had hoped! School was a challenge for me as I was a very dreamy child, more interested in being outside, preferably in the native bush or playing rugby. This challenge with the traditional school environment is what inspired me to want to be a teacher/educator. I wanted to make learning more interesting and accessible for all students; not just the ones who were good at academics. Throughout my teaching career in both public and Waldorf schools, my approach has been considered ‘innovative’.
