I'm Kim Le BasÂ
I’ve been a K-12 educator for other thirty years, teaching in both public and private schools across New Zealand, Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, and New York. More recently, I’ve worked on the administrative side of education, working as a principal and executive director, then for the Hawaii state government. Having hands-on education experience, both in the classroom and as an administrator, has given me unique insights into how creativity is taught, and how fostering creative thinking can help children in other areas of learning. I struggled with dyslexia as a child, which was a barrier to both writing and to enjoying learning. Having overcome this barrier, I’m now a passionate educator, dedicated to helping parents and their children find the joy in writing, using creative writing as a tool to ignite a lifelong love of learning.

I'm Rene Le BasÂ
I’m a scriptwriter and creative writing educator. Ever since reading Redwall and Artemis Fowl as a kid, I’ve wanted to be a writer. Now a working screenwriter in New Zealand, I’ve written for the children’s series, The Cul de Sac, and been awarded grants and development funding for my own TV series and feature film scripts. For the past six years, I’ve been on the Board of the New Zealand Writers Guild, where my role has had a particular emphasis on creative writing education in New Zealand. For the past ten years, I’ve run creative writing workshops through organisations like the Emerging Artists Trust, and taught at film schools, most recently as Unitec’s Screenwriting Lecturer. Through all these experiences, helping new writers, and seeing them unlock their unique creative voices, has been incredibly rewarding. I bring this passion and experience to Writing Allies.
